AppNote 295: Accelarate Material Emissions Data Analysis – GERSTEL TVOC Wizard

Abstract:

Estimating the emissions of vehicle interior materials is crucial to the automotive industry. The VDA 278 method, in which small quantities of non-metallic interior materials are thermally extracted and analyzed using GC-MS, is widely used worldwide. It is a very sensitive analysis method and allows even the most trace impurities to be detected.

Materials used in vehicle interiors emit numerous compounds, leading to complex chromatograms. Data processing is a challenging task that must be of high quality to produce meaningful results.

The GERSTEL TVOC Wizard software, developed in cooperation with Lablicate, addresses this challenge. A special deconvolution algorithm and an integrated NIST database enable peak separation and compound identification even from complex chromatograms. The resulting report is VDA 278 compliant and can be customized to meet the customer’s specific requirements.
