Twister® Sorbent Phases
Twister® Sorbent Phases: Expanded Extraction Capabilities Across a Broader Range of Analytes
Unlock Greater Analyte Coverage with Advanced SBSE Chemistry
GERSTEL’s Twister platform now offers multiple sorbent phase options, enabling efficient extraction of polar, semi-polar, and non-polar compounds while maintaining the sensitivity and solvent-free advantages of Stir Bar Sorptive Extraction (SBSE).
Sorbent phase options include the ultra-low-bleed PDMS of the original Twister, and the same combined with either HLB, DVB, CWR, or a triple phase combination of CWR, DVB, and PDMS. All phases are thicker and cleaner than those found in SPME or SPME arrow, providing the highest sensitivity and lowest background possible.
Whether you are performing environmental analysis, food and beverage testing, flavor and fragrance characterization, consumer product analysis, or research applications, Twister sorbent phases provide the flexibility to optimize extraction performance for your target analytes.
Why Twister?
Twister, also known as Stir Bar Sorptive Extraction (SBSE), is a solvent-free sample preparation technique that enriches analytes from liquid and solid samples in immersive and headspace extractions. Due to its large sorptive phase volume, Twister delivers exceptional sensitivity and low detection limits for trace-level analysis.
Key Benefits
How Twister Works
- A Twister stir bar is placed into a liquid sample or suspended in the sample headspace.
- The sample is stirred with a Twister stir bar (immersive) or agitated (headspace) to facilitate extraction.
- During extraction, analytes partition into the sorbent coating.
- Twisters are rinsed with water and dried with a lint-free tissue.
- Twisters are placed into a thermal desorption tube.
- Analytes are thermally desorbed and passed onto the GC-MS system using either the Thermal Desorption Unit 2 (TDU 2) or Thermal Desorber 3.5+ (TD 3.5+).
- Optional re-conditioning in the offline Tube Conditioner (TC-30™) or Online Conditioning Station (OCS)
The result is a simple, robust, and highly sensitive workflow that minimizes sample preparation complexity while maximizing analytical performance.
