GERSTEL Inc. offers training courses at our Baltimore, Maryland applications lab which is fully equipped with all major GERSTEL instrumentation on Agilent 7890 gas chromatographs. Standard course modules cover the MPS 2 robotic sampler, thermal desorption with the TDS/TDS A, Stir Bar Sorptive Extraction method development with the GERSTEL Twister™ and software control of the TDS and TDU thermal desorbers. Courses include both classroom presentations and hands-on instrument maintenance and operation. The courses are typically held four times per year. 2012 Schedule
The MPS 2/TDU module includes an overview of instrument setup, operation and maintenance, and software control for special functions. Applications are discussed illustrating the special capabilities of the MPS 2/CIS 4 inlet combination for large volume liquid injection, SPME and headspace sampling, and the Twister Desorption Unit (TDU) accessory. For a detailed syllabus of the course topics, follow this link: MPS TDU outline 2012
The Thermal Desorption module includes an overview of instrument setup and operation, and hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting for the TDS/TDS A thermal desorber. It includes a discussion of optimizing conditions for direct thermal extraction of solids, air sampling with adsorbent tubes, and Twister extractions. For a detailed syllabus of the course topics, follow this link: TDS2 outline 2012
The Twister-Software module includes a half-day overview of Stir Bar Sorptive Extraction method development fundamentals illustrated with examples. It is followed by a half day workshop covering software control modes for thermal desorption with the TDS and TDU thermal desorbers. For a detailed syllabus of the course topics, follow this link: Twister Software outline 2012
GERSTEL training courses are advanced courses that assume the course participants are familiar with GC chromatography principles and instrument control software. If introductory GC courses are needed, please contact one of the many organizations that offer such courses.
GERSTEL recommends new users attend training after gaining some basic experience running their systems based on the familiarization given at the time of installation.
Experience with the thermal desorption control software, and familiarity with the software operation manual is a prerequisite for the thermal desorption workshop in the Twister-software module.
The training courses are offered four times a year. Three standard modules are available:
Registration is $750 per student per day, with discount schedules available for multiple participants from a single company. Lunch is provided on-site during the course. To register, follow this link: Online Registration
Specialized training courses are available including a special MPS course emphasizing special programming functions for dual rail PrepStation and WorkStation applications; multidimensional GC-GC with heartcutting, and a chemometrics course for those customers interested in the GERSTEL ChemSensor. Web-based training is available on select topics such as large volume injection method optimization using the MPS 2/CIS 4, thermal desorption basics, and principles of GC-GC heartcutting. Special training courses are offered occasionally at sites in the Chicago area and on the West coast. It is also possible to arrange customized on-site training for larger groups at your site. If interested, please contact support@gerstelus.com
